SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to connect to a server and execute various tasks through a command line. The protocol is popular with many skilled users, as the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a third party. SSH access could be employed for lots of things depending on the type of Internet hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for instance, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the website hosting server permits it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for pretty much everything - you could install software or restart specific services like the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is used typically with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which permit you to use the protocol if your personal computer is running a different Operating System too. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote hosting server always listens for incoming connections on that port though lots of providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Web Hosting

SSH access is provided with all web hosting plans which we provide. With some of them, it is featured as standard, while with others it's an optional upgrade which you can include with a couple of mouse clicks from your website hosting Control Panel. You can obtain SSH access through the section dedicated to it where you will also find the information which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can pick the password which you will use and, if needed, you'll be able to change it with a few mouse clicks from the same location. All commands that can be used with our shared plans are listed within a help article along with relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is permitted for your account, you shall also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll be able to receive SSH access to it with only a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with all accounts. If your plan doesn't support this function by default, you will be able to include it with ease using the Upgrades menu. When you go to the SSH section, you'll find the information you need to connect to the server through a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, if required. These login credentials are also required if you want to upload files using a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service we offer you. A thorough list of the commands you can perform will provide you with a better idea of what tasks you can perform in your account and each one is accompanied by a couple of instances of the syntax.
